Students worked with local OPEN-Imcon experts and the Goma Volcano Observatory (OVG) scientists to develop and begin the deployment of a network of IoT CO2 sensors for the protection and safety of Goma city residents from this potentially deadly volcanic gas.

Remote students are also learning about the next generation Internet hands-on by building and network linking their own IoT CO2 sensors. The all-important science of data analytics is an integral part of our community-focused citizen science programs.

OPEN is hoping its remote schools in the future will donate one of their well-tested CO2 sensors to the OVG science and technology teams to increase coverage and improve safety for the citizens of Goma during future earthquakes and eruptions.
