Plymouth, Massachusetts USA – June 20, 2019 | One Planet Education Network (OPEN) schools from USA East Coast, Haiti, and Africa joined OPEN, the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the Living Observatory, MIT Media Lab’s Responsive Environments Group, Syracuse University iSchool, and Imcon International for a “live” outdoor presentation from Plymouth Massachusetts, USA ecosystem restoration research site. During this live Zoom event our OPEN students and teams of international experts learned about this amazing multi-year ecosystem restoration project which includes a novel sensor network designed, deployed and operated by MIT Media Labs Responsive Environments Group.
Students witnessing learned first hand about this project from its leading scientists, conservationists and technologists involved, and the OPEN Partner Teams. Our OPEN students from five countries were shown custom Internet Sensor monitoring technologies and visualizations, discovered how and why this monitoring matters, and its relevance to OPEN’s sustainable community development program series. The live video and audio stream was brought to our classrooms via Imcon International’s Internet Backpack “Mobile Classroom”. The event was supported and hosted by Living Observatory and MIT Media Labs Responsive Environments Group.
Our thanks for permission and the generous use of the Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary property by the Massachusetts Audubon Society, and all the teams involved to make this unique distance learning event possible.
